Sunday

The kids grabbed their tablets and cozy blankets for the two-hour road trip to Point Lobos on the Central Coast of California. I mapped out a three-ish mile loop (which turned into four due to trail closures) and we hiked clockwise across the cliffs, meadows, juniper trails, abundant poison oak, calm coves, and a muddy pine forest that for sure was hiding an owl. We didn't see or hear an owl, but it definitely had a resting owl vibe.

The whaling museum was tiny, but actually well-featured and maybe my favorite stop on the hike.

The kids ran and rock-hopped pretty much the entire way, and yelled, "Mushroom!" whenever they spied a fungus poking up through the pine needles.

We saw deer indifferent to our presence, a few seals, an otter, pelicans, seagulls, golden-crowned sparrows, and scuba divers.

We made it home just in time to catch the last quarter of the Niners beating the Cowboys. All in all, a successful family Sunday.
