A New Home
Yes… I know this is the third newsletter in a row about sailing, but my time has pretty much been committed to this boat for a few weeks now, so of course, she’s all I have to write about. Dash and I left Vallejo at 0500 hours, catching the ebb down Mare Island and Carquinez Straits. By the time I got to the Brothers Islands, the tide had turned and the flood crushed me. The two dolphins fishing the dropoff at Brothers must have thought I was nuts to try to fight that king tide. It took me nearly three hours to get around the islands and under the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.
But once under the bridge and past Red Rock, let me tell you, the sailing was perfect. A steady 15 knots, the city skyline in front of me, big boats all around, I could not have asked for anything more. I gave a heavy “Whoooh” to the first view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Once at the dock, it had been 10 hours since I left our old marina for good. Dash was amazing. She was so capable and happy to have full sails. My pride was obvious and I told her. Here, she gets to smell the salt air and watch the fog roll in. She’s like a horse in a stable, waiting to run free across the prairie, except this prairie rises and falls with the moon and washes fresh each day. The Berkeley Marina is Dash’s new home.
